What Is A Roundabout?
The Houze/Hembree Roundabout, which was constructed by Georgia Department of Transportation in 2018, was the first two-lane roundabout on a state road.
Since 2018, other roundabouts have opened in Roswell located on Sun Valley Road, Old Roswell Road, Old Alabama Road (two-lane), and Hardscrabble Road. In late 2020, Roswell opened its first miniature roundabout to traffic on North Coleman Road at Lake Crest Drive, which was the first project of its kind within the City.
Roundabouts are new for many drivers, but following some basic steps will help you safely navigate them.
How to Navigate a Roundabout
- Take it Slow! Slow down as you approach the roundabout, and yield to pedestrians.
- Get into the Correct Lane. Pay attention to pavement markings and signage to ensure you're in the correct lane. Use your signal.
- Yield to Traffic before entering the roundabout.
- Do Not Stop or Change Lanes. Stay in your lane until you exit.
